There are so many wonderful things to do on Île d'Orléans, and one of the best is visiting the Parc maritime de Saint-Laurent. In addition to its superb view of the River and the south shore, this enchanting site offers day visitors to the island an opportunity to explore its fascinating heritage. Did you know that at one time some 400 longboats were built in Saint-Laurent-de-l'Île-d'Orléans every year? You can still smell the sawdust! Whether alone or with friends or family, come drop anchor and stay a while!
Old-time photographs, anecdotes and memories … Digital guide in hand, you can explore the exhibition that tells the story of the Saint-Laurent shipyard – the island’s main industry for over half a century – and learn about islanders’ often demanding lives.
Enjoy our interactive workshops and learn how to tie all kinds of knots that sailors have to know! Then head over to the Godbout rowboat shop for the boat builder’s challenge. Find out how to choose the right kind of wood to build an attractive and sound boat.
Check out our made-to-measure summer programming with something for everyone. Temporary exhibitions, lectures on nautical themes, a chance to meet authors and artists … Île d'Orléans has plenty to be enthusiastic about and lots of people eager to share their love of the island.
There’s a lovely picnic area right down by the water. You’ll find plenty of shade, refreshments for sale, and the village grocery store just a five-minute walk away!
